Bubba Watson eager to tee off at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans despite tiring Pro-Am round – Golf News
The reigning Masters Champion Bubba Watson is eager to tee off at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, despite feeling tired following his appearance in the Wednesday’s Pro-Am event at the TPC Louisiana.
While he moved on the course, his fans were lined up in his way through to the end, holding yellow pin flags in order to get signed by the recent Masters champion.
Therefore, he patiently signed a number of yellow Masters Pin flags. He was playing in a group that also included New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
"I'm pretty exhausted for this week," Watson said. "I've been playing pretty solid all year, my worst finish is 18th. So the advantage is I'm just playing good right now".
Watson is currently a crowd favourite because of his recent Masters victory, added with his great form on the PGA Tour.
He said that he really did not want to return back on the Tour after recording his first victory at Augusta National.
For that reason, he took a couple of weeks off prior to coming to the TPC Louisiana, which he believes is his home course.
Apart from that, he wants to play his part in building the momentum that the city has gained while recovering from the Hurricane Katrina.
"I thought it was the right thing to do," Watson said. "Some people were saying that, you know, I could take time off, spend time with family, but I just felt like it was the right thing to do for everybody involved with the tournament, the volunteers, everybody
that's put the effort in for this week, the charities that are affected by this tournament".
He added by saying that it was the right thing to do to come back and defend the title in Louisiana.
Defending a title is harder each time a player enters the field because of the pressure he feels during the four rounds.
However, he believes that it will all end positively, especially for the tournament. Therefore, he is more than happy to be a part of the field and will be playing his part in its success.
