Bubba Watson followed by a suspicious person in Columbus, Ohio
The reigning Masters Champion Bubba Watson has reported being followed by a suspicious driver while going back home with his family from a Christian music concert in Columbus, Ohio, prior to the start of the Memorial Tournament last week.
He revealed the incident after he carded a 74 in the second round of the event at the Muirfield Village Golf Club, on Friday, June 1, 2012.
"A car chased me," he said. "Angie was driving. She had to pull over. I switched to driving so I could drive through someone's yard if I had to. But we had to drive away from our house, the house we rented. We drove for 37 minutes".
According to Watson, his wife was initially driving the car. However, when he found that someone was chasing, he took the driving seat and called his caddie, Ted Scott, to intervene and block the person on his way.
Therefore, Scott started finding him on the roads so that he could block the chaser, which would help Watson get away from him.
He recently adopted a child and he was with him when the incident happened. Therefore, it was a difficult situation for him to deal with at that time.
"We kept driving around and they finally gave up," Watson said. "I was going to keep driving until we felt safe again. That's the first time that's ever happened".
Watson also told that he was looking forward to relocating in exclusive Isleworth community in Orlando, Florida, because of its secure location.
After missing the cut at Memorial, he did not look too disappointed, as it gave him a couple of more days to find a new house for his family.
"It's been interesting," he said. "That's why Isleworth is going to be good for us".
He is now once again taking a week off prior to the start of the US Open, the second Major event of the year, at the Olympic Club, San Francisco.
The tournament will officially begin on June 14, 2012, and he is rated as one of the favourites for this year’s edition.
