Bubba Watson gets in a good position prior to the final round of the Travelers Championship
The reigning Masters champion Bubba Watson carded a five-under par 65 in the third round of the Travelers Championship to share the 12th spot, at the TPC River Highlands, in Cromwell, on Saturday, June 23, 2012.
Watson got off to a confident start and recorded three birdies on the front nine to go three-under par.
The back-nine of the course witnessed him card four birdies against two bogeys to settle four strokes behind the leaders, Roland Thatcher and Brian Davis. He currently has an overall score of eight-under par after three rounds.
Overall, he looked pleased with his performance, especially after a poor round on Friday, which saw him record a one-over par 71, following a 66 in the opening round.
“I just played good the first day and today. The middle day, just the heat got to me a little” said Watson, who only managed to score two birdies on Friday.
“A little off my game, a little tired. No energy there. I just came back today after some rest and some good rest, and played better”.
According to the Watson, who is known for his long drives on the PGA Tour, he needs to shoot really low in the final round if he has to record a win on Sunday.
“You gotta shoot low. I'm going to have to shoot a low number, lower tomorrow than today,” he said. “But you know coming down the stretch, if I have a chance at it, it will be fun. That's what we're all trying to do. We're all trying to get a chance on Sunday”.
According to the golf commentators, Watson can be a real threat to his rivals on Sunday because of his ability to score low in the final rounds.
In the meantime, Chez Reavie also joined him on the leaderboard with a five-under par 65 third round score. The highlight of his performance includes five birdies on the final eight holes of the day.
Davis and Thatcher recorded six-under par and five-under par scores, respectively. Both now have an overall score of 12-under par while entering the final 18 holes of the event.
