Bubba Watson is set to defend his title at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans – Golf News
The reigning Masters Champion Bubba Watson is set to defend his title at Zurich Classic of New Orleans, slated to start at the TPC Louisiana in Avondale, from April 26, 2012.
Right after the victory in Masters, Watson was asked on Twitter if he was going back to defend his title in Louisiana. "Great question. Great question," was his answer.
According to the tournament officials, they were pleased to find that their defending champion earned the first major victory of his career.
As a result, it will bring plenty of excitement if Watson decides to defend his title at the event. However, Watson’s reply on Twitter stunned the officials, casting doubts about his participation.
Good news struck when he went on-air through the Late Show with David Letterman. He revealed that he was getting ready to fly to New Orleans, where he will defend his title.
Watson is currently enjoying a great form and is definitely a hot favourite to win the tournament for the second straight year.
He has played a total of eight tournaments so far on the 2012 PGA Tour and succeeded in making four top-five finishes.
Apart from the Masters win, he took the sole second place in the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship and tied for the second position in the Tavistock Cup.
Moreover, he was tied for the fourth position in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, presented by MasterCard prior to registering the win at Augusta National.
He defeated Louis Oosthuizen in the sudden death playoffs with a par shot on the second extra hole.
"I've never had a dream go this far, so I can't really say it's a dream come true," Watson said at Augusta National. "I don't even know what happened on the back nine. Nervous on every shot, every putt".
"Went into a playoff. I got in these trees and hit a crazy shot that I saw in my head, and somehow I'm here talking to you with a green jacket on," he added.
Thereafter, he appeared in different TV shows and is currently enjoying the peak days of his career.
Therefore, his participation in New Orleans will bring a huge crowd to the course, making it more interesting to watch.
