Bubba Watson leads the Deutsche Bank Championship after the third round
Long-hitting Bubba Watson seems to have taken the better off the rest of the field at the second leg of the FedExCup Playoffs at the Deutsche Bank Championship, as he is now leading the event by one shot. His lead might prove short-lived for the moment as
no fewer than 18 strong contenders are within three shots off the advantage, while another six players are four shots away from summiting the leaderboard.
The third round of the championship was played under wild gusts of wind at the scenic TPC Boston, where Watson shot a comparatively disappointing round of 70 as compared to his previous rounds of 68 and 64, respectively. He has managed to stay clear on his
course to probably another victory for the season. He is now 11-under, 202 on the aggregate.
“Anybody has a chance,” Watson said trying to calm his nerves after a whirlwind day of bogeys blended with birdies on the third day. “It's always nice to be in the final group because then you know what everybody is doing. If you play slow enough, you'll
be two holes back, so when you know what you have to do,” added Watson, one of golf's quickest players. “It's a good position to be in. That's where you want to be.”
Watson has won twice so far in 15-months stretch and will not be much surprised with another win at the twilight of the current year.
Watson opened up his day with a bogey on the first hole of the front nine but managed to card four birdies before making the turn. He fell for another three dreadful bogeys before finally pulling in a birdie on the par-four, 17th, to call it a
day at one-under, 70.
Rampaging Aussie duo, Jason Day and Adam Scott are among a group of five players contending for the second slot, one shot behind Watson. The day started off with an eagle at par-five, 2nd, sending shivers down the rest of the field but stumbled
on a bogey at the very next hole. He finished for four-under, 67, and boosts strong form to win the tournament. He is probably the only player who has performed brilliantly in the whole season but is still looking for a victory.
