Bubba Watson leads the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans - Golf News
Bubba Watson smashed a score of 4-under par in the second round of Zurich Classic of New Orleans to surge into lead. The US$6.4 million Professional Golf Association
Tour event is taking place at the Pete Dye-designed Tournament Player Club Louisiana in Avondale.
The left-handed teed off from the back and remained consistently determined to lead the field until the day end. He aced the par-5, 11th after he hit the
tee shot across the fairway and approached the green with a draw. This is the second time in the 36-hole session that the American has aced the same hole.
Looking back at his accomplishment, Watson was very excited and at the same time, proud. He said in a green side interview, “Yeah, that one was good for me. I hit
two good shots. The second shot in there. The fairway and tee shot was a little scary for me but it worked out today.”
Approaching towards the centre of the back nine, Watson picked two more birdies and rocketed into the top of the leader board. However, by the time, he walked towards
the 18th tee, the wind had picked up pace and had changed its' direction, which turned out to be alarming for the player.
Resultantly, Watson lost his cool and planned a wrong tee shot onto the left side of the fairway, which ultimately, left him with a bogey. Watson wrapped the back
nine with a score of 3-under par.
With wind against the layout of the front nine, Watson decided to play safe and avoid long tee shots. In doing so, he left the first six holes at par. However, standing
on the seventh tee, the player discussed the possible strategy with his caddie and hammered a three-yard long tee shot across the fairway. The approach shot left him with two yards towards the green, which he covered with a 5-iron and a putter. The longest
hitter on the PGA Tour wrapped the front nine with a score of 1-under par and an aggregate of 10-under.
The winner of 2010 Farmers Insurance Open has relished success in keeping himself vaulted in the lead for the second day, but will he lead the field in the final round
is a question yet to be answered.
