Bubba Watson loves playing at the TPC River Highlands
Bubba Watson is currently at T5, along with his very good friend and the US Open Champion, Webb Simpson.
The world number four was expected to do well in the event. The 2010 Travelers Championship title holder shot a 66 after the first round.
TPC River Highlands is the course which he likes. At the US Open, he was very unhappy with the Olympic golf course. TPC River Highlands is probably the course that matches his game very well.
Last week, it was one of the main stories that Watson played poorly at the US Open. He failed to make the cut and people thought that he needed a break to gather his thought before the Open starts.
Some of his fans thought that he needed to spend some time with his family before turning up for the Open.
In 2010, Watson was making a desperate effort to get a spot in the Ryder Cup team. At the Travelers, he was in the playoffs against Pavin and Scott.
In the end, he defeated both of them to lift the Travelers trophy. Moreover, Watson was really impressed by the TPC River Highlands golf course.
Now in 2012, he is no more a defending champion and that lifts the pressure off him but still people have high expectations for him, his fans and media follow him around.
When asked about the entire fan following and the media coverage, Watson came up with very interesting answer.
He said, “Yeah, the distractions are ... they are different distractions now. You know, I won the Masters, so there is definitely more fans, more things to sign, more media attention”.
Watson teed off today with two of his mates on the Tour, Webb Simpson and Keegan Bradley.
Watson seems to be very comfortable playing at the TPC River Highlands. He could not manage a cut in the US Open but here, in the first round, he rose to the occasion and finished it at a good position.
Bubba Watson managed an eagle on the tenth hole. He birdied on the 1st, 2nd, 7th and 9th hole, before bogeying the 16th hole to finish at 4-under par.
