Bubba Watson not happy with the stardom after his phenomenal success at the Masters
Bubba Watson, the latest champion of the coveted Masters, is relishing the newly gained fame and insists that he never wanted to be famous, rather to play his own brand of golf- the Bubba Golf.
The lanky left-handed American, who surged to stardom last week with a blistering show of composure and mental strength, took over the rampaging Louis Oosthuizen for his first major title of his career, says that he is having a hard time settling down with
the stardom.
He said, "I'm not ready for fame. I don't really want to be famous or anything like that. I just want to be me and play golf”.
Watson broke into tears and it took a while for his caddie and mother Molly Watson to being him back to normality.
Watson probably missed his father who passed away in 2010-the only teacher, coach and mentor, Watson ever had.
Watson has closed the previous year with excellent performance all over, winning no fewer than two PGA Tour titles, the Farmers Insurance and Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
He came close to winning his first major title, The PGA Championship just the previous year in 2010 when he was taken over by the eventual winner Martin Kaymer.
Watson will be treated as a different man the next time he enters the Augusta National Clubhouse.
He will be walking upstairs to the Locker room of the champions.
Interestingly, though, this is something Watson does not approve off.
He added, "I heard now that I leave the locker room. It's going to be sad. I've been there for four years. I know all the guys. They treat me real well. So, sorry”.
The most surprising feature of Watson’s style of play is the fact that he never had a teacher in his life. Whatever he learned about the sport, he learned it hands-on.
He said, "Why do I want somebody to tell me what to do? I'm still a kid. I'm hitting shots that I want to hit. I'm doing the things that I want to do. I play it my way”.
Watson came back from behind to make up for the three shots deficit to jolt into contention. He emerged as the champion on the playoff, when Oosthuizen missed the chance at the green.
