Bubba Watson not ready to be the new Tiger Woods
American golfer Bubba Watson stated that he isn’t ready to become the face of American golf just yet. The player gave an interview at the TPC River Highlands, where he won his first PGA
Tour title last year. After his first win, the left hander has won twice more at Torrey Pines in January and the Zurich Classic in April. Even though Watson is currently leading the FedEx Cup standings, he doesn’t see himself as the next face of American golf.
After great players like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods in American golf history have faded out now, the nation needs a new leading golfer. The European
golfers truly dominated golf since last year when Woods was undergoing personal crisis. The 14-time major championship winner was displaced by European, Lee Westwood, in October last year. Also, the Europeans won the Ryder Cup that took place in Celtic Manor
last year.
"I do have a pretty face," he joked in an interview with The Associated Press. "But I hope the Tour is not going to bank on me being their poster child. I think
it's going to be harder to dominate, like we used to see, like Tiger has dominated for so many years. I think it's going to be harder to have one guy stand out like that, because the talent is so much deeper in each tournament that it's harder to dominate
the whole world like that."
Bubba Watson got in a bit of a controversy when he gave a statement about Woods saying, he was going the wrong way. The statement though, might have been interpreted negatively and Watson
thinks that Woods will spring right back up from his injury. The player believes that a small miracle would need to happen for him to be like Woods.
Watson's career got on the right track when he won the Travelers Championship last June. At that time, Watson’s dad was dying of cancer and there was also a false diagnosis of Watson’s
wife having brain tumour. In midst of the entire crisis, Watson fought to be a strong person and also a good golfer and turn his career around.
