Bubba Watson returns to action at the Travelers Championship
The reigning Masters Champion Bubba Watson is set to return to the field of the Travelers Championship, which saw him register the first victory of his career in 2010. He will tee off at the TPC River Highlands, in Cromwell, on Thursday, June 21, 2012.
While talking to the PGA Tour’s official website, he recalled the memories of his win when he had mixed feelings of joy and sadness.
While holding the trophy in his hands, he looked a little sad because his father was dying of cancer at that time.
Watson told that much has changed since then, as he recently joined the league of major championship winners and adopted a child named Jacob.
“Yeah, this has been two years now. You know, it was a great victory, first victory,” he said, following the practice round on Wednesday. “It was sad, but great. At the same time I announced that my dad was passing away of cancer”.
“But a lot's happened. I've won a couple times, won some big events and then adopted my son. So it's been a great two years, all positive stuff,” he added.
“Even though seeing my dad pass away, it's great to see him not in pain anymore. So it's been two great years”.
He also told that he was happy to see the US players taking the major championships in the last few months.
According to him, Keegan Bradley and Webb Simpson did not only win the majors for themselves, in fact, they did that for their country too.
He said that he felt really good when he came to know that he will be grouped with both of his friends in the opening two rounds at River Highlands.
Apart from that, he amusingly said that he will not talk to them during both the rounds. Rather, he will try to beat them on the leaderboard.
The golf commentators believe that Watson will be having some trouble at the Travelers Championship, as he missed the cut in each of the last two tournaments that he played, including the US Open at the Olympic Club last week.
