Bubba Watson spews out disrespect for French Open and France
While the long-hitting Bubba Watson went over to miss the cut at the Alstom Open de France last week, he made sure to completely destroy his image with his wreckless public statements, which have profoundly offended the French public.
The left-handed golfer, who switched over to PGA Tour after his successful run in the Nationwide Tour, decided to travel beyond the Atlantic to sharpen his skills before the Open Championship ahead.
Watson complained of the unfriendly playing conditions that caused him to miss the cut.
“It’s different for me, there’s cameras, there’s phones, there’s everything, no security, I don’t know which holes to walk through, there’s no ropes,” said Watson.
The lanky golfer was participating in the event on sponsor’s exemption and probably had also taken appearance money to play in the tournament. His comments in regards to the unfriendly conditions would have been considered logical and reasonable if the 32-year-old
Floridian had not further aggravated the situation with his sloppy tongue-in-cheek remarks about the country.
“I don’t know the names of all the things, the big tower, Eiffel Tower, an arch, whatever that — I rode around in a circle. And then what’s that — it starts with an L, Louvre, something like that. One of those,” Watson said.
When asked by the reporters about his experience in playing in France, an arrogant Watson replied, “I think this might be the only time I play in Europe.  I miss my home.”
His compatriots and many of the European Tour players criticized Watson’s uncalled for attitude off the field and reasoned that he should have been more careful as whether he likes it or not, he represents his country in whatever he says.
Francesco Molinari said he definitely cannot blame the French audience for his seven-over score on the course while PGA Tour player Heath Slocum Tweeted that he never complained of unfriendly playing environment for missing his cut last year. Graeme McDowell
and Chris Wood both lamented Watson’s harsh comments and turned down his criticism for the bad environment.
Watson also came out with scathing comments for Tiger Woods a few weeks back, where he criticized Woods decision to alter his swing. He has shown time and again his lack of ability to weigh his words before spilling them out.
Turning professional in 2003, Watson has five professional wins on the PGA Tour and none on the European Tour. He won his first event for the season at Farmers Insurance Open in January when he took over Phil Mickelson by one shot. He finished last year’s
PGA Championship as the runners up, after losing to Martin Kaymer on the Playoff.
Currently ranked 15 on the Official World Golf Rankings, Watson is hoping to break through the ranks at the third major of the season to record his first major win of his career.
