Bubba Watson starts off slowly at World Challenge
Bubba Watson did not have the best of days at Sherwood Golf and Country Club, as he shot a below standard one-under, 71. Watson was not in his groove on Thursday, as he made errors after errors at the 2012 World Challenge
Watson is not yet out of contention for the tournament, he is four strokes behind the leader, Nick Watney, who carded a bogey free round on Thursday.
Current Masters Champion had a very eventful first day. Watson carded five birdies and four bogeys on a day where conditions were overcast but not difficult.
World number eleven had a poor start to the round, as he carded two bogeys right on the first two holes. He made amends a few holes later by shooting two birdies on the 4th and the 5th.
After he shot two consecutive birdies, it seemed as if the American was back in his zone and would make progress from there on. However, it was not to be like that, as he carded another bogey on the sixth.
Three consecutive pars and Bubba finished his front nine with a score of one-over. Watson tried to turn things around, as he carded two consecutive birdies on the 10th and the 11th.
It looked as if he is in for a good nine holes but something was just not right today with his game.
He posted four consecutive pars, followed by a birdie on the 16th. It was a decent score till the 16th but a bogey on the 17th pegged him back and he closed out with a par on the 18th.
It was a disappointing round, considering the way he has played this year. It has been a successful year for Bubba Watson and he would love to end it on a high. However, shooting such rounds will not help him much in this cause.
Brandt Snedeker, a fellow American, was in all sorts of trouble on Thursday, as he posted three-over for the day. It was, by far, the worst round he has played in the season.
Snedeker, too, is aiming to sign off with a victory but with this score, he is most certainly out of contention at Sherwood Golf and Country Club.
