Bubba Watson surges to the top in second round of Australian PGA Championship: Live Leaderboard
Long-hitting American Bubba Watson, who was trailing the leader by one shot yesterday, has now surged to the top with some amazing drives early in the morning. He opened up the second round with an eagle on the first hole and has pulled in two birdies on
the front nine as yet. He is one shot better than the Australian Marcus Fraser who also had a good solid putting success in the front nine.
Asian star golfer Y. E Yang moved to the top of the leaderboard early in the morning in the second round of the Australian PGA Championship at the scenic Hyatt Regency Coolum Resort but succumbed to terrible bogeys on the penultimate holes to fall back.
Soaked by the overnight rain, the course presents ideal conditions for low scores as many of the top ranking golfers are working their way up the leaderboard.
Yang started off the day with blistering birdies on the front nine, scoring no fewer than four in a row he made the turn to drop a shot but regained his fine form to card two more birdies and a splendid eagle at par-five, 15th. Last two holes
of his round turned out to be a disaster with a double-bogey at the 17th and a bogey at the 18th. He is now poised at joint third while rest of the field is still playing for their respective rounds.
“I had a double bogey on each round, yesterday and today, so considering the fact that I didn’t really play my top game, I really didn’t have a clean sheet, I think it’s satisfactory. We’ve still got two more rounds to go so I think I can build on this.
I mean anybody would love a great big lead but I’m going to take whatever the golf course gives me right now.” said the Yang.
Overnight leaders, Choi Joon Woo and Steven Bowditch, had a disappointing start of the second round as both players slide down the leaderboard following their unimpressive putting in the morning. Bowditch, who carded a round of six-under, 66 on the first
day, succumbed to a high of 73 while Woo, who started off from the back nine, stumbled on two double bogeys and a disastrous triple-bogey on par-four, 18th and is three-over for the moment.
