Bubba Watson tied at the third spot after round 1 at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational
One of the most anticipated sports events is underway. The first day of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational comes to an end and as expected it was filled with thrill and excitement.
The fans got their money’s worth as the biggest names in the world of golf went head to head for glory.
The tournament teed off on the 2nd of August and being a four-day event, it will end on the 5th of August. The venue for this auspicious event is the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
Many players were able to impress the spectators while others failed. The list of players who gave an outstanding performance also includes American professional golfer Bubba Watson.
Bubba Watson managed a good first round at the Akron. He had a bad start as he teed off with a bogey on the first hole. Watson was almost immediately in rhythm after the bogey, as he carded an eagle on the second hole. This was the only eagle for him throughout
the day.
Despite the bogey on the sixth, he had a good end to the front nine, as he carded two consecutive birdies on the eighth and ninth hole. There were no double bogeys on the front nine, so these made his score two-under par after the front nine.
Watson had a much slower start to the back nine. On the first six holes of the back nine, he did not have even a single birdie. He just had one bogey on the twelfth hole. He had a magnificent end, as he carded three consecutive birdies starting from the
sixteenth hole.
There were no eagles or double bogeys on the back nine. These made his score two-under par on the back nine and his total score became four-under par.
Bubba Watson finished the first day tied on the third position with five other players, including world number one Luke Donald and fellow American Ben Crane.
Watson was three strokes behind the leader of the tournament, Jim Furyk. He had a score of seven-under par after the first day. He was followed by English professional golfer Lee Slattery.
