Bubba Watson wants to spend time with his family – Golf News
The reigning Masters Champion, Bubba Watson, has announced his withdrawal from the Wells Fargo Championship, scheduled to start in the first week of May, 2012.
According to Watson’s manager, Jens Beck, Watson has some family commitments that are sidelining him from the event. Otherwise, the field of the Quail Hollow is among his favourites, all over the world.
"He really wanted to play. It's one of his favourite tournaments of the year. But family calls," Beck said.
Watson adopted a baby boy prior to the start of the Masters Tournament, early in the month. He turned out as a winner in the event after he made a par shot on second extra hole of the playoffs against Louis Oosthuizen.
Following the Masters, he appeared in the Tim Tebow's charity foundation golf tournament. Therefore, he decided to take some time out for his family after such a tough routine.
"It's all about Caleb and Angie," Beck said about his withdrawal. "He wants to spend time with them".
Initially, his presence in the field of the Zurich Classic was also doubtful, especially after he was asked about his plans for the tournament on Twitter.
Watson just replied by saying that it is a “Good question, good question”. This many people perceived as if he was not interested in defending the title this year.
Later, he told in a TV interview that he will return to Louisiana this year, as he wants to make his share in the recovery of the city from Hurricane Katrina.
"I have not had enough time with my family, by myself or anything, but I felt obligated to my fans, to New Orleans, the city, that I should be here," Watson said.
"I would love to be at home right now watching my little boy and spending time with my wife. But yeah, I'm here because I just felt like it was the right thing to do".
Following his appearance at TPC Louisiana, he is taking a week off and then he will move to the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach to participate in the Players Championship.
