I noticed I am holding my breath while swimming under water, (going across the pool)..then i blow air out when I come up and take a breath in and go under again, --and getting tired fast. is it healthier to blow bubbles instead of holding it in? or does it not matter?

  1. They are both fine. The differences come with how you move in the water. Not blowing bubbles your chest is full of air and you feel lighter in the water and have more oxygen in your lungs for longer, you will also tend to float to the surface. Blowing bubbles you will have less and less air to keep you floating and will also tend to sink to the bottom, and run out of oxygen quicker.

  2. I used to take swimming lessons, so I was taught how to blow bubbles.   It's easier for me, but I don't think that if you hold your breath, you'll be able to stay underwater longer than someone who blows bubbles through their nose and mouth.  It doesn't really matter, just whatever is easier for you.  Although, for me, blowing bubbles out my nose when I swim is a disadvantage because I have a hard time using scuba diving masks with that nose thing. :)

  3. There is no healthy way to answer this question because if you do both correctly..you'll stay healthy!

However, blowing bubbles under water helps you prevent water from coming into your nose, for me its mostly when I:

jump or dive into the water

flip or do a tricky maneuver under water

feel like water has gotton into my nose and it feels uncomftorable

however, you don't need to blow bubbles all the time because it really depends on where your nose is and if it is in danger of filling up with water.

It doesn't really matter to answer your final question, because as long as water does not get into your inner nasal canals or lungs ( please noo ), then you're fine.

  4. I do not know exactly what you mean.

If you are simply trying to hold your breath, I would say no bubbles.

Blowing bubbles while you are floating will make you sink, but you ALWAYS need to blow bubbles if you are swimming competitivly.

    Good luck! K
