Bubbly Phoenix, an absolute favourite for the final of the Ladbrokes 66th East Anglian Greyhound Derby
The two-year-old, Bubbly Phoenix, has proved his racing expertise by staying scratch less in the Ladbrokes 66th East Anglian Greyhound Derby. There is not prouder trainer than Paul Young who now has his intentions and actions devoted towards bagging
the prize money of the final event.
The three semi-finals of the contest were raced over 462 metres flat on 15th September, 2012 at Yarmouth. The heats took on with the first leaving the 2012 Greyhound Of The Year, Taylors Sky, adrift by a short head’s difference.
The Charlie Lister trained suffered defeat at the hands of the Paul Young conditioned, Millwards Matt, who went racing across the wire in 27.77 seconds. Racing out of the sixth trap, Big Daddy Cool’s son raced at the wide end, got crowded when racing in
the first position, and then fourth. Despite the obstructions, he raced on and landed the first semi-final.
The second semi-final turned out to be the most exciting as the favourite entry, Bubbly Phoenix, drew wide and then raced for the rest of the distance undisputed. The deceptive speed sealed the fate of the race in 27.27 seconds.
Missing the race by the mark of seven lengths was the hound under the supervision of trainer, Seamus Cahill, Guinness Dusty, who had to make peace with the second position due to getting crowded when racing second.
The anxious and joyous crowd had no idea that the time clocked in the second heat was to be the shortest at the end of all the three heats.
Taking flight from the fourth trap was, Ballyfinn Oscar, bumped into the cluster and had to resurface twice when trying to monopolise the lead, from the first position and then the second.
The favourite entry of trainer, Mark Wallis, concluded the race in 28.39 seconds. He kept the runner-up, Eye Eye Pips, adrift by 5 ¼ lengths.
Trainer Paul Young went home with two winners out of the three heats, while the third went in favour of Mark Wallis.
Not only was Paul Young rewarded with the prize money of the first two heats, his under charge, Bubbly Phoenix, clocked in the least time of the three heats.
