Aleksandr Bubnov believes that it is still too early to pass judgements about the Spanish tactician and has hailed Zenit St. Petersburg's win in the Russian Cup against Mordovia Saransk
Former Russian footballer and coach, Aleksander Bubnov, has shared his views of the Russia Cup Round-of-16 encounter between http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Rostov-c39192 and Spartak Moscow at Olimp 2 Stadium on Tuesday.
Rostov booked their place in the quarter-finals of the cup tournament after knocking out the Spartachi from the competition. The Selmashi recorded the memorable win against Spartak on penalty shoot-out at home.
However, it is not the first time since the Red-Whites have failed to progress from this round in recent years as the Spartachi failed to reach the later stages of the tournament after suffering a shocking defeat against less fancied,
Volga Nizhny Novgorod, last term.
And while many have blamed Unai Emery for the shocking defeat against the less fancied side that have not win any match since their 3-1 win against Astrakhan in mid-September, Bubnov has backed the Spanish tactician despite Spartak’s
shocking exit.
Emery has particularly been criticized for the Russian outfit’s below par performance in the UEFA Champions League, as the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 coach failed to meet the expectations in the tournament.
The Red-white are yet to confirm their progression to the later rounds of the European tournament despite recording their first win in the group stage match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SL-Benfica-c40542 at Luzhniki stadium.
Bubnov backed the under-fire manager despite some senior football analyst’s negative remarks about Emery, saying that it is still too early to make conclusions about the former Valencia Coach.
“Sides like Rostov play with an added motivation against big teams like Spartak. So, I think we cannot entirely blame the coach. I think we should wait until the winter break to make correct conclusions about Emery.”
“Rostov knew that they have a chance in the penalty shoot-out, so they played the match defensively. Spartak failed to make most out of their chances and I think this is the main reason for the defeat.” The Soviet Top League winner
was quoted as saying.
Bubnov went on to hail Zenit St. Petersburg’s 2-0 win against Mordovia Saransk, saying that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luciano-c22574 Spalletti’s men deserved the outcome.
