Buboy Fernandez improves Pacquiao’s hand-speed – Boxing News
Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao is known for his speedy hand jabs. According to his strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza, Filipino assistant trainer ‘Buboy’ Fernandez has contributed substantially in making the former WBO welterweight titlist
an even speedier fighter.
In an over the phone interview with the Manila Standard, Alex Ariza spoke about how Pacquiao fast and stable Pacquiao has become recently. Ariza revealed that Pacquiao was able to spar four rounds with his sparring partner Raymund Beltran and another four
rounds with a Russian fighter.
“It’s some of the best sparring I’ve seen from Manny and it’s not just the sparring but the movements that he has and I think his hands and his footwork is almost at a different level that I’ve seen in a long time,” Ariza said. “The combination of having
‘Buboy’ Fernandez now is very good at making Manny throw lots of punches, volume and speed.”
According to Ariza, Pacquiao specifically spars for a couple of rounds to focus on speed and volume. He added that it has worked wonders for the Filipino over time.
“It gets Manny tired because it’s a different pace with speed and volume punching and it was some of the best footwork and pressure that I’ve seen from Manny in a long time,” he added.
Pacquiao is scheduled to take on Mexican ring legend Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The Filipino fighter is training at the Wild Card Gym owned by Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach. It will Pacquiao’s fourth face-off with
Marquez. The Filipino fight king has already won two of the previous three fights, with one ending up in a tie.
In other words, Pacquiao has nothing to lose against Marquez. Even if he loses, the score would still be 2 for Pacquiao and 1 for Marquez. A win would take him closer to a super-fight against WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather Jr. A loss would push
Pacquiao back in time to the era where he had to struggle his way to the top.
According to Roach and Ariza, Pacquiao is in his best of condition and there is no way he would lose to Marquez.
