Buccaneers begin search for new Head Coach after firing Raheem Morris - NFL News
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have started making the first moves to find a replacement for sacked Coach Raheem Morris who lost his job on Monday.
Two major contenders for the job have emerged on Tuesday and both candidates will be interviewing for the head coaching role according to multiple sources close to the search. The names doing the rounds of the rumour mill are of ex-Green Bay Packers Coach
Mike Sherman and also current Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray.
Gray was a former Buccaneers player and has become one of the most promising Coaching prospect in the National Football League with his work for the Tennessee Titans but Sherman has his own positives. The ex-Packers Coach led the franchise to three National
Football Conference North division titles after putting six seasons with the Packers under his belt.
Coach Raheem Morris was fired on Monday after his team went on a horrendous ten game losing streak after week 6. The Buccaneers looked to come good on their promise early in the season with a 4-2 record as the young side seemed to be gelling but things did
not turn out that way.
Raheem Morris seemed to have lost complete control of his dressing room with players refusing to follow play calls and trying to individually win games by themselves. The poor form in his second season of quarterback Josh Freeman did not do any favours to
the Buccaneers with teams such as Jacksonville Jaguars even beating the Bucs.
Turnovers were a key issue for the franchise also who lost possession with criminal regularity during games and some pundits seemed to believe that the players themselves were playing poorly to get rid of Coach Raheem Morris.
The same team under Morris completed the previous year 10-6 and earlier in the year the Bucs were considered as strong contenders to reach the playoffs rounds.
With Morris now leaving the team the fans will hope that whoever takes over the head coaching role would right the ship again and bring the team back from the brink. Jerry Gray is currently favourite to land the coaching role after his previous work in turning
young quarterbacks into top performing players and the same would be expected if he takes over to help Josh Freeman to realise his true potential.
The Buccaneers started the previous season playing a home game in London as part of the National Football League’s plan to give the NFL a more international audience. However, decreasing crowds and poor performances on the field led owner Malcolm Glazer
to refuse playing further home games abroad.
