Buck Says Cole Will Stay
Chelsea chairman, Bruce Buck, says that Ashley Cole will be staying at Chelsea for this coming Premier League season and beyond.
There have been strong reports in Spain that have suggested that Real Madrid are preparing a bid to sign the left back. Real boss, Jose Mourinho, is a rampant admirer of the Chelsea man and Real's transfer spending in the recent past has not been kept a secret.
Cole has not had a chance to either confirm or deny the rumours because he has been on a short break since he came back from the World Cup with England. Many people are still calling him the best left back in the world despite his poor performances with England.
It does not seem logical why the player would want to move away from Chelsea because there are so many benefits he would get by staying. However, speculation is often based on some element of truth so it's important to consider the fact that he may well move to Spain.
Staying
Buck insists that the player is best off at Chelsea and he does have a point. Chelsea are the current Premier League champions and Cole has been a part of the club for a very long time. He knows all about the infrastructure and set-up of the club and many would question why he would ever want to leave.
He is a popular player at Chelsea and fits in well with the rest of the team. Although he apparently carries quite an ego around off of the pitch, it is clear that he is a well respected and admired player when Chelsea are under pressure during games.
Buck said: "Ashley is a superb player. He is a delight to deal with around the football club, he gets on very well with everyone, he trains very well and he is really a model athlete. Obviously, he is not happy with how his private life has become the focus of everything around him and I think we'd like to work with him so that he has a bit of a lower profile."
Going
It is no secret that one of the players, who was a cornerstone of Jose Mourinho's Chelsea success, has been linked with his former boss. The Portuguese coach admires him and would be delighted at the chance to sign him.
Real Madrid have not been blessed in the defensive area of their team over the last few seasons. They need one or two players to really come in and command these areas so the club can close the gap between themselves and Barcelona.
Buck added: "We don't think the problem will change if he went to somewhere else outside of the UK, so I think we want to work with him here to make his personal life more enjoyable."
Advice
Chelsea and Real Madrid will both do very well at this moment in time if nothing changes. They both have very good squads and will do very well in the English and Spanish domestic leagues.
Even if Cole does eventually leave Chelsea, you should not be afraid to back the West London club to retain their Premier League crown. Carlo Ancelotti has turned Chelsea in to a very tight and well organised side while Real Madrid look as though they will always be a little unpredictable.
Also remember that Cole scores his fair share of goals for a defender. He will do this at any club he plays at and it's well worth a punt for him to score at any time during a Premier League or La Liga match.
