..and why?

I personally saw it coming - he worked so hard at his come back for the finals - but after the Pies lost to Geelong I think he realised that he's chances of playing in a GF are v. slim.

Will miss Bucks :(( Hopefully he will continue his career as a coach.

  1. Funny how the Pies are one of the most hated teams and yet no one really wants to see buckley go.He is very well respected by all it is a shame to see him go hopefully he will remain in the public eye

  2. Yes. He is retiring so he can spend more time holding Eddie's hand. Also his retirement will allow him & Eddie to have more free time to spend, telling each other how good each other is.

Nathan, Eddie & Mick would have far the biggest egos in the whole of Australia. Fitting they all belong to Collingwood.

  3. Don't think much of Collingwood, but love Bucks. He probably is making the right decision, but I would have loved to see him go around once more.

  4. no i think he should play 1 more year

the bloke is a legend and the way the pies finished a flag could be around the corner

  5. Oh No!

Nathan Buckley is an absolute Champion.

I honestly thought he would go for another season.

I think he has it in him.

When he came off the ground the last time he played, he had that look on his face that maybe said 'this is the last time i'll play'

I was hoping that it wasn't so, did you hear about this today?

It is a real shame that this Champ didn't experience a Premiership, if anyone deserved it, Bucks did.

    I will miss him ♥

  6. He should retire (in my opioion) you have a young side that is still developing into a premiers side. You've good the legs and the strength to concure all teams. I think Buckley realised and knew that you guys dont need him as much any more instead you depend on your more younger players.

His been a great player and all collingwood fans would miss him dearly.

  7. yh its so sad...i personally loved seeing Bucks play.....he was such  STAR!!!...ITS SAD THAT HIS RETIRING...I'M SURE HE'LL come back as A COACH...AND ALL HIS FANS WILL NEVER FORGET HIM!!.....anyways its time for him to move on with his life, i hope for him the very best!!!

    =D

  8. sure he made the right decion. from what i understand he did it to make more room under the salary cap for some of the other younger/ new players to come through...

they might even be able to buy some better players in the draft too... lol

ohh here is the conspiricy theory for you.. maybe they are going to put the money out for judd?

besides by doing so i think he is opening himself up for a coaching role in the future...

  9. Yes,

    I Dont Like Collingwood

  10. I have seen Buckley play forever and has grown up to be a very well respected person.

He will be missed greatly as a player ,but I'm sure that what endevours he chooses for his future,no doubt will be a success.

I can see him Coaching though and I'm sure will be a looked up to Coach.

Collingwood supporters have so much to be proud of in Nathan. He has done heaps for them.I'm sure there are plenty of tears at the moment.

Non Maggies supporters will miss him too.

    All the best Bucks!!!!!

  11. If he does retire it is shame that he didn't get to share in all the accolades of this years retiring champions that would been very appropriate.

So maybe he does have another year in him.

  12. Well only he can know if he's done with.

But I'd think the Pies are the second favourites for the flag next year at this stage (no matter what the bookies say - and I don't know).  Young team, finals experience, some incredible new talent and a seemingly brilliant attitude.  Sounds a bit like the Cats of last year.  A few more forward options (not necessarily new players), some more muscle and a more adventurous/ confident game plan and then ...

... that would be a perfect place for the most precise player and best decision maker I've ever seen.

He could start a role at the Cats as a skills coach!

  13. I don't think Bucks had much say in continuing his football.

Once a physical weakness keeps cropping up(Hamstring) it could take over the confidence factor.

Bucks was fortunate in having a long career, so I think he would be ready for moving on to something a bit less taxing on his body.

Not all retired players go into coaching and media, some usually go into an industry that is lucrative or where they are still in the public eye.

In Bucks case, he will need to have something that allows him to still be noticed, for his ego and mental stability.

  14. yes because if he stayed he would get more disapointed becuase now that clement burns and bckley are gone they are goin to be a bottom 4 team

  15. As a Kangaroos supporter, I can honestly say I loved watching Bucks play.

A classic player, as skillful and tough as they come.  The reason footy is so great to watch.

If this is true, it is a shame - it would have been great to see a champ play one more full year of footy rather than the shocking year with injuries he endured.

If so though - farewell to one of the real legends of the game.

  16. yes he will retire and will also be a very good coach.
