do you think that they are pretty?

and do you think they would stand out (in a good way) in the hunter ring? because paints sometimes stand out but the judges dont seem to like them very much

- im not trying to be mean in saying that because some paints do very well its just that some judges dont like them as much as the fancy bay ponies.

- my buckskin is a pony :P

  1. I, personally, really like buckskins. It is a shame that just becuase a horse is more unique looking that a judge may look upon it differently. But, that's how it goes sometimes. Most judges, though, tend to appreciate a good horse no matter what it's color is. I wish you luck with your buckskin pony.

  2. I love buckskins also - they are my favorite coloring.

I think that many hunting classes are way too political and if you are interested in this as a sport for you and your buckskin - then enter your class with the thought to do your best, learn each time and try to get better each month - leave room for a bad day  and don't care where you place as it really may have nothing to do with your skill or your horse's skill.    It is a real shame & I have no idea why so many let this go without at least letting them know what they are doing.

At any rate - I hope you just go out to do an event with your horse, show your friends & family your skill and just have fun.   If you love your buckskin - then that is way-totally enough!  :)

  3. I love buckskins.  My Shetland Stallion carries the dun gene and produces line backed ponies.

As with any showing it is one person's opinion of your animal.  If you find particular judges don't pin your horse, then show under those that do.  All showbills usually list who the judge(s) are.

  4. Hunter judges as you know are very picky and the only way to answer or question or find out if they like Buckskins, is to try a Hunter class.

  5. Sometimes standing out isn't a good thing- judges are more likely to notice your mistakes. ;) But if you do well in the ring, sometimes standing out can be that extra boost to get you noticed!

  6. Hello Danny,

    My input:

I think that showing is VERY political.  Which means that MANY of the judges pick the winners by the barns, owners of the horses or trainers they know!  MANY EXCELLENT horses are overlooked and it is NOT always very fair!

I too like the flashy, stand out in the crowd horses, such as paints or colored flashy horses!  BUT, it is my own opinion!  All you can do is do your best!

But, other events such as barrel racing, pole bending, team roping, etc...  DO NOT judge you and your horse by looks and they ARE much more FAIR!  Your time is what counts!  So it doesn't matter so much, what barn, trainer, owner, etc.  if you have the best, and fastest time that is it!

KEEP up your showing!  I am certain your great at it!  AND I love buckskins!

  7. I love buckskin pony hunters. They're so different, they really just make you stop and watch them. They stand out from all the grays and bays out there.. :]
