Bucs' QB Josh Freeman hopeful of making Jaguars game on Sunday – NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers have some good news at last with regular quarterback Josh Freeman recovering quickly from a shoulder injury and according to reports could be in contention for a start Sunday against Jacksonville Jaguars.
Coach Raheem Morris gave Freeman a bit of light practice on Wednesday as his movement returns with backup quarterback John Johnson working on the offensive line just in case Freeman couldn’t make the game.
Obviously, he'll be a day by day guy. We'll see what he's able to do (Thursday). We'll have a chance to evaluate him on Friday, obviously Saturday and Sunday," Morris said. "Obviously he's a lot better this week than he was last.
We'll get a chance to see where he can go and if he can go the next couple of days."
The quarterback got the injury during Buccaneers game week 12 23-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Freeman hurt his shoulder falling to the ground on his elbow during the final play of the match as Tennessee Titans held on for victory.
Freeman missed Buccaneers match on Sunday against fellow National Football Conference South strugglers Carolina Panthers as Tampa Bay lost their eighth and sixth straight game 38-19 this season with a poor performance.
Backup quarterback John Johnson had to go off the field in the second quarter as he had popped his shoulder out on his non-throwing hand. However, he returned to the field after having his shoulder adjusted and is ready to play
back-up in case Freeman cannot make it in time.
Johnson covered 229 passing yards during the game completing 16 out 27 attempted passes, creating a touchdown and also getting intercepted once.
Freeman is optimistic about his chances to feature on Sunday telling reporters
"Continually it's gotten better. It started out extremely painful, just standing around. But my movement's greatly increased," the quarterback said. "I've thrown the ball a few times and it's just day to day gotten better. If we
can continue on this pace, and I really hope we can, I'll play."
Buccaneers are 4-8 and have just pride to play for as they remain third in National Football Conference South. With the playoffs out of their reach the Bucs will likely not take any risks with their star quarterback.
