Bucs’ Coach Raheem Morris confident of keeping his job – NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Coach Raheem Morris is adamant that he doesn’t fear losing his job after another morale-crushing defeat for his side.
The Buccaneers lost 41-14 at the hands of Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday ramping up pressure on Morris to find a solution to the team’s slump, which has seen them lose seven games in a row with a poor 4-9 record.
As Week 14 of the National Football League came to a close, news emerged that Kansas City Chiefs Todd Haley and Miami Dolphins Tony Sparano have both been terminated from their job.
Raheem Morris, however, believes that he is under no stress after his side’s poor performance on Sunday saying
"When you're coaching, you are always on the hot seat. That's the mentality of what we do," Morris said at his morning news conference. "We were on the hot seat when we were 10-6. If we didn't go to the playoffs, we could still
get fired."
The Buccaneers started the season in good form, going 4-2 with the Coach seemingly able to get the maximum out of his young side. Week six saw the Buccaneers win for the final time over rivals New Orleans Saints after which the
Bucs form took a nose dive with the team starting a losing run that is yet to be snapped.
"It's great for you guys to scare my family half to death and talk about that stuff all throughout," Morris said. "But for us, man, it's a mentally tough business. It is move on. It is next opponent. It's next man up. It's the
Dallas Cowboys. ... For me, a chance to ruin (Cowboys coach) Jason Garrett's season.”
The Bucs had a torrid night against the Jaguars, getting offensively mauled during the second and third quarters. Taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, the Buccaneers defence crumbled completely with Jaguars scoring 41 points
with no response in the second and third quarters. The result is all the more damning for the Bucs since the Jaguars offense is worst in the National Football League and had not scored more than 20 points before this game.
Tampa Bay is ranked third in the National Football Conference South.
Morris may believe that there is no threat to his job, but if results continue this way, the axe may well fall on the first year Coach.
