Bud Cauley and Marco Dawson share the lead after round one at Seaside Course
The McGladrey Classic has proved to be a lucky tournament for Bud Cauley. The McGladrey Classic was the tournament where Cauley’s performance enabled him to secure his tour card for the PGA season.
Now he is in pole position for his first win on the tour. Bud has enjoyed an excellent season. Although he is yet to win a title, but the world number 55 has been performing consistently throughout the year.
At the Seaside course, Bud shot a brilliant eight-under 62. This was by far his best round of the season.
Six birdies on the last nine holes was really the highlight of the day for Bud. He was bombarding tee shots with accuracy and was excellent with his chipping.
"Obviously, I've thought about winning every tournament I've teed up in this year," Cauley said.
"It's been a long year, and although I've played a lot this year, I haven't won. It's still a goal of mine, but I'm not thinking about that while I'm out there, or putting any more pressure on myself this week. The season is kind of wining down. It would
be great to win here".
At the top, however, he was joined by another American, Marco Dawson. Marco, too, is searching for his first win but for him, securing the PGA tour card for the next season is more important than winning.
At the moment, things are not very pretty. A top-three or a top-five finish is needed by the world number 692.
Dawson, too, shot an eight-under 62 but it was not a flawless round. This whole season, Dawson has been performing very inconsistently. He has made only six cuts in twenty tournaments.
However, at the Seaside course, Dawson started nicely with two birdies on the first three holes but he bogeyed the fourth.
After that, it was a decent show of golfing skills by Marco. He seemed to be firmly in control of the situation and the birdies on the last two holes really set the day up for him.
"I'm so far away from it that the only thing I can do is just try and play well," Dawson said about his standing on the money list. "And when I am playing well, just to keep it going instead of kind of messing it up like I have during the year".
