James- I am knowledgable, which is why i'm able to ask this. Everyone defends Buddhism without having studied it. Dalai Lama says homosexuality's sexual miscondut, yet people say "la la la Tibetan buddhism accepts everyone" thinking this isn't taught in Vajrayana Buddhist scriptures.

  1. There is difference between the teaching and practice

even the Dalai Lama got in trouble for acknowledge that Buddhist not only the Tibetan but all branches failed by large to live up such principles

History of Asia, proof , Buddhist societies , highly hierarchical, oligarchical , where the poor, women and minorities usually have being abused and where many times Buddhist priest have participate in the corruption

  2. is #2 torture a child to death?

  3. how do we know that number 2 isnt killing people

  4. No. You truly have no idea what you are talking about.

I suggest you ask your 'question' through the Buddhist Wellness Group where you will find the truth.

  5. Why do you feel the need to bash on Buddhists?

You can cherry-pick sayings and precepts from ANY of the major world religions and make it look like those religions endorse murder, violence, and hatred.

If you really want to know what Buddhists believe why don't you go to an actual Buddhist Monastery or Temple?

Asking this question on the anonymous internet is awfully convinent - especially if you just want to bash believers and not learn anything about Buddhism.

  6. What's # 2 ?  Is it torturing a child to death ?  ...bd

  7. (1) killing your mother, (2) killing your father, (3) killing an arahat, (4) inflicting injury on a Buddha that results in bleeding, (5) causing the fight among monks are called Anantriyakamma (อนันตริยกรรม).

These 5 kammas are considered the worst kammas in Buddhism. These kammas will yield the result (vipaka) before other bad kammas.

One who commits one of this acts will certainly be reborn in h**l for several life times. This person will have no chance to go to heaven or to attain the enlightenment. He or she will face relentless suffering in the present life.

Angullimala (องคุลิมาร) had killed 1000 persons because of the jealousy from one of his friend. After he met the Buddha, followed his teachings and he eventually entered nirvana. This is the case of kamma and vipaka. He used to be a large sea turtle in his previous life. He helped carrying 1000 people from a ship wreck on his back to an island and save their lives. First, they thanked him but later killed him for food from hunger. Before he died, he vowed a revenge which happened in this life. You may read the whole story in the TIPITIKA.

In Buddhism, killing of man or animal is bad kamma and will send you to h**l. Angullimala became enlightened because he did not commit Anantriyakamma.

  8. I suspect that if you spent as much time working on your own devotions, you would be a much better person.

If you are surprised that Buddhist teachings might ever make a mistake, believe me, you need to get out more.

You are talking about matters of godly judgment, and none of us really has a clue how God judges. I sure don't.

Why do you bother? What are you trying to have happen? Why?

If you want to do a critique of Buddhism, first you must become a knowledgeable Buddhist. then you can have enough understanding to do the critique correctly. Otherwise, you waste your time and everyone else's.

  9. Where do you get your information.  let me guess from a christian or other religionist.

    $.05 please

  10. Which sect teaches that? Zen Buddhists teach, "If you see the Buddha on the road, kill him!"

You also fail to mention that the Angulimala story is one of redemption.

  11. You are absolutely right. Angulimala was a serial killer. He attained nibbana in his lifetime. You may ask : How can someone who killed so many innocent people attain nibbana ? Did Buddha decide to allow him into nibbana ? What about those good people living there who did not commit murder ? Why didn't they all attain nibbana ? Is this fair ?

Angulimala attained nibbana because he dispelled Ignorance through the practice of The Eight Fold Noble Paths. After becoming a monk, he gave up killing and devoted his lifetime to develop the Eight Fold Noble Paths. His paramis ripen before his killing karma. Having attained arahathood, he no longer take rebirth. The negative results have not a chance to take effect after his death.

You may at this point argue, he should have went to h**l because .... While we all are entitled to our opinions, to really know what happened to Angulimala, you must have the ability to see the past, or see through h**l to find Angulimala. Neither you nor me have these abilities or we will not be posting here. To be fair to you, I declare I hold to the truth that Angulimala attained Nibbana through my faith in the Buddha not through my own experience. (If your view is, I don't believe in h**l, past lives, nibanna, nivarna, buddha, karma etc. then there is no discussion here.)

    (5)Causing disunity in the Sangha.

Garuka Kamma is not translated as 5 worst crime. Garuka Kamma means heavy kamma. Actions that result in the worst result. What is the difference ? In a crime, you need some governing authority to prescribe punishment. It is not the same as kamma. Suppose you fill up a bucket of water and aim it at the sky throw the water to the sky, the water fall back on you, who is prescribing the punnishment (of water splashing onto yourself) ? Was it Sir Issac Newton ?

The analysis of karma, cause and effect is more intricate than what you and I think should or should not happen.

The analysis of crimes and deciding which one is worse is much easier. Isn't that what our legal system with its laws, judges, jury and lawyers do everyday ?

    To answer your question,

Yes as a buddhist, I believe there is a worse consequences for me to injure a Buddha.

As for crime, we have laws in the country that can answer your question.

  12. That's just as illogical as believing Moses was rightous, even though he had everybody who disagreed with his way of thinking  killed, forced women to marry their rapist, and even promoted rape.

  13. What's #2?

  14. Is crime number 2 so bad you dare not speak of it?

  15. When Buddha attained enlightenment He pondered whether to share his insight. He feared that humans might not be able to understand His teaching. He was persuaded and He expounded His teaching.

Buddha preached in two forms. He preached His absolute Teaching – the four Noble Truths to the more intelligent ones as it is a difficult Teaching to understand. This and not merely His moral code is what should really be known as Buddhism. He preached Morality to less intelligent ones with the hope that the good actions He instigated in these people by leading moral lives, would aid them in being born suitably accommodated in the future to be able to understand His absolute Teaching.

To answer your question, there is a need to understand the structure of 'being". Being is energy. In emptiness or cosmo consciousness there are a few unchanging elements, such as earth, water, fire , air, space.   Being is a composite of these elements. Most of us accept the 6 realms of existence, from heavenly being to h**l being. Within each realm there are various kinds/ species.

Each being has different quality of energy; just like each type of car has its quality - a mercedes is not the same as local car of a developing country. Likewise the quality of energy in a Buddha is not the same as a child; the karmic consequence of killing an ant is much, much lighter than killing a cow ( a sacred animal).

Like the Buddha says - to born as a human is such a rare , rare happening. He illustrate by scooping with His hand with sand; He release the handful of sand and what is left in His palm are the insects and the insignificant creature of the world, He clapped His hand several time and what is left in His palm are those who humans who would walk His path. This is just to emplify the different form of being with different quality of energy. If you have a score of 1 to 100, the Buddha has 100 points while the child has maybe less than 1 point.

To punch the nose of a Buddha may send you to the h**l realm for billion life time while to torture a child you may be in h**l for a couple of years.

Anyway do not refuse medical treatment until the culprit is identify. Seek treatment first. Wisdom is not the same as knowledge. Understand His absolute Teaching not His moral conduct.
