Buddy McGirt: Marquez showed the script on how to beat Pacquiao – Boxing News
Former two-division titleholder Buddy McGirt claimed that during his prime time he could have defeated Manny Pacquiao, the current WBO welterweight champion. He further stated that Juan Manuel Marquez gave out the script to beat Manny Pacquiao during all
their fights.
Juan Manuel Marquez fought Pacquiao thrice, however he never won a single fight. The first fight between both the top-notch pugilists ended in a controversial draw, the second fight was won by Pacquiao through a split decision and Manny won the last fight
as well through a majority decision. Even though Marquez was never successful against Manny, McGirt thinks that Marquez was successful to a certain extent. On the other hand, Marquez feels that he won all three fights and that there were irregularities in
the judgements.
In his recent interview, McGirt stated, “Marquez showed the script on how to beat Pacquiao. A guy like Pacquiao, guys like that, you've got to punch when they punch. You've got to throw them off their rhythm. Once a guy like Pacquiao gets his rhythm going,
you can forget about it. I just felt that if you keep your hands going against a guy like him, and you punch when he punches, and you give him different angles, that you can beat him.”
He went onto to comment how it would have been if he had faced Pacquiao during his prime time. He stated, “I would make the adjustment, baby. Me and Pacquiao, early, I think that it would have been a chess match. But once I figured him out, then it would
be in my favor.”
According to him, Pacquiao is a fighter who relies on his speed and agility, which if interrupted would end up devastating Pacquiao. McGirt has been an outstanding pugilist throughout his career. He is considered among the best fighters that have stepped
into the ring. Today, McGirt is 48 and he is training Matthew Macklin who will be facing Sergio Martinez sooner or later. Macklin challenged Martinez on HBO Saturday, but he has not received a response from Sergio to date. If the fight happens, it will be
an opportunity for Macklin to prove his mettle.
