  1. The best budget travel book I've ever used is "Let's Go!"  You can get one for the country or for the individual cities...their recommendations for accomodations and restaurants are excellent and affordable.  I also used an internet site for a trip last October (2 weeks in Tuscany, 1 week on the Amalfi coast) called "RentVillas.com" and was very very happy with the places (this was for a large group, and they typically only rent places for a week at a time, but you might want to check with them for any suggestions).

  2. A lot of the accomodation in your budget range will be pretty basic rooms. Your best bet is on the outskirts of town, particularly near the fiera where there's good public transportation to the center of the city. Rooms in pretty good hotels are relatively cheap as long as there are no events at the fairgrounds. Right now, the Hotel Montebianco (4 star) has some rooms as low as 60 euro per night. http://en.venere.com/hotels_milan/fiera/...

Another option may be in the vicinity of the Central Station. I stayed at the Hotel Mini Aosta right next to the station three weeks ago for around 70 euro per night. the rate today is a little above your limit though. I hadn't expected much from this hotel, but was pleasantly surprised. http://en.venere.com/hotels_milan/centra...

There are several options under 75 euro on the venere.com website. Just select the dates your interested and sort by price to find the inexpensive ones. http://en.venere.com/hotels_milan/#o=pri... I would read the guest reviews and ratings carefully though.

  3. Yes. I definitely have a cheap suggestion. Have you considered Youth Hostels? I have recently come back from a trip through Italy and I am very impressed with the hostels there. Youth Hostels are not what they used to be. These days they are clean, and usually moderately comfortable. However, anything in Milan is going to cost an arm and a leg, so I would reccomend finding accomodation outside of the city and busing or training in each day. Your wallet will thank you for it, trust me.
