Budget family holiday for 2009 in Cornwall UK - ideas?

Hi! We're looking to go away next year to Cornwall (UK) for a week in summer holidays (late July/August) but are on a budget. We'd want somewhere with some type of family/childrens entertainment. Don't want to go to Newquay! Was looking at some places (self-catering) but prices are beginning at around £600 which is too much! Anyone got any ideas, advice or tips from own experience? Many thanks.

the twice I did it when my children were young, we booked a cottage that had enough beds for two families and shared it with a friend and her family
