  1. hi,

    You visit the travel plan Rome or Venice , Paris and Madrid . i suggest to you check the city details packages at http://www.joy-travels.com

  2. It's such a subjective question that the only way I know how to answer it is to quote the rates that US state department allows for each city. I put your five cities, and three cities in England for comparison. If the values for English cities seem reasonable for the way you travel, then you have better feel for the values for continental cities.

    -----------------------

    The first number is the maximum allowable for a hotel room inclusive of tax. The second is a per day allowance for meals and incidental expenses. Transportation is not included.

    ======================================...

    Madrid - $314 -$175

    Barcelona - $327-$168

    Paris - $347-$203

    Rome - $400-$223

    Venice- $430-$212

    -----------------------------

    Portsmouth-$198-$118

    Birminghan-$250-$110

    London-$354-$181

    ================================

    So for a four night trip to Rome, you would be allowed $1600 for a hotel room (if tariff is over that amount you must absorb the cost), and you would be paid $1003.50 for meals and incidental expenses  (4.5*$223: the extra 50% is for travel day). Local transportation would vary widely depending on how thrifty you are with cabs.

    --------------------------------------...

    Hotel rooms and meals at facilities representative of moderately priced and suitable hotels and restaurants most frequently used by typical federal travelers. The lodging portion of the allowance is based on average reported costs for a single room, including any mandatory service charges and taxes. The meal portion is based on the costs of an average breakfast, lunch, and dinner at facilities typically used by employees at that location, including taxes, service charges, and customary tips. An additional amount, equal to 10% of the combined lodging and meal costs is added to cover incidental travel expenses.

  3. The cheapest you will be able to get by on is about 60 USD a day.  That means buying bread and meat at a grocery store, walking alot, finding fairly cheap accommodation and just enjoying the city, not the sights that charge.   Hostels are going to be your most inexpensive option but if you are traveling with someone else and splitting the cost budget hotels are often run you nearly the same.  In general a comfortable day, not extravagent but comfortable, would be to have 100USD a day for accommodation, food, transportation and odds and ends.  That being said, Spain is going to be a bit cheaper than Italy and Paris is probably at the top.

       In Venice and Rome look into the campgrounds that are outside the city.  This does not mean you have to sleep in a tent, they have mobile home type rooms, restaurants, pools, bars, showers, washing machines etc.  The only down fall is they tend to be about 25 min outside the city, but still on public transportation.  All in all they will save you quite a bit on accommodation.

        As far as saving on transportation within a city; look into day or week passes for the metro.  All these cities have either ticket books or a variety of passes that will save on multiple trips on busses and undergrounds.  In Venice you can buy them at the tourist office in the main train station.  In Rome look into the Roma Pass. And in Spain you can pick up a 10 + ride pass at any ticket vending machine.
