My father was in the Vietnam War back in the late 1960's and he wants to go back and visit (with me in tow). What sort of budget would we need for a week, including hotel stay and meals?

  1. I think you need AUD$ 5000 (Australia) , enough for one person

  2. It would depend on what sort of hotels you want to stay at. You can stay any where from $6 for a single to like in the US in the hundreds of dollars.

I would check with tripadvisor.com forum on Vietnam.  Quite helpful.  It will help answer your Dad's answers.  Him going back will help him close a lot of doors.

    Cheers

  3. I'm a Vietnam Veteran.  I've been back to Vietnam 5 times in the last 5 years.  $20 - $25 a day per person will easily get you by in family run tourist hotels.  Less if you shop.  Your biggest expense will be transportation to Vietnam.  Plan for the low season. (Cooler temperaturewise also)  Oct to Dec.  Not including the Christmas rush!  $1000 round trip fares can be had from Los Angeles in Nov. to Saigon.  Flights from Saigon to Danang are about $75 one way.

Tourist buses are cheap. An open tour bus fare from Hanoi to Saigon is about $30.00/ you jump off and on when ever you like at their scheduled stops.  Trains are good, too.

You need a visa and a pass port good for 6 months to get into Vietnam.

I took 4 people with me in '05 on a "tag-along tour".  2 weeks - Hanoi to Saigon.  Souvenirs and custom made clothes were the biggest expense after airfare.  I didn't charge and they didn't complain.

    I'm headed back this Oct.

  4. Here's a website that will give you an idea of what hotel costs are, as well as what you will get for your money: http://www.hoteltravel.com/vietnam/index...

I live in Asia and have traveled to Vietnam twice this year, everything else will be quite inexpensive. Three days in Hanoi, with a family of three, seeing many sights, taking taxis, meals, a few cheap souvenirs and we spent around $120.00 US between the 3 of us for 3 days, not inc. hotel. If you're going to be hitting the bars and nighlife, that could easily double the money you spend. Of course, it never hurts to bring a little extra cash and/or credit cards just in case. But overall, Vietnam is very inexpensive, especially for an American. Have a good trip.

  5. Depending on how you wanna stay. Hotel from usd3 to few hundreds, you can find many cheap hotels, hostels, package tours  in old quarter (many streets begin with "Hang") in Hanoi or in Bui Vien str, De Tham str in Ho  Chi Minh city.

Meals from less than usd1 to usd10 per pax - normal range for both Vietnamese (city ppl) and foreigners. If you need some thing special, high class, preparing yourself for same price in developed world.

  6. im not sure but you could try here.....
