Hi, my budgie bird it about 7 or something like that. I dont know what happened, nothing looks wrong, if anything his foot is a little more purple or swolen, but its not bleeding or anything, but you can tell it hurts him to put pressure on it , so he tries to hold it up. Its not like when budgies hold up their foot when there sick, but he is just holding it up a little. Can someone help me?

  1. put ice on it.the exact thing happened to my cockateil.it was purple and swollen we were about to take it to the vet but when we put ice on it it worked.and if it doesnt work take it to the vet.

  2. He could have gotten his foot stuck somewhere or just hit it on something.  You should take him to the vet to take care of it.  Good luck!

  3. He could have gotten it caught in the chain of a toy or of your cage has decorative bars on it that arch (budgies have actually lost toes in those arches), he could have gotten caught in a tight corner where the arch meets the bars.

When my cockatiel sprained his foot we were told (by vet) to put all of his perches and toys close to the bottom of the cage because if he were to lose his grip, he wouldn't hurt himself.  We also bought him a pedi-perch, they vary in thickness and are therapeutic for injured feet.  He healed in a few days, but he had no redness, just a little swelling.  He fell off my husbands shoulder and didn't know how to land yet, so he fell hard.

I'd call the avian vet if I were you.  Just to be on the safe side.
