I am looking after Jimmy while his owner is in hospital, I have no experience of birds. I thought if they are asleep they have their head under a wing. We are sat watching tv and he keeps shutting his eyes, is he asleep, is he ok?? I will DIE if he does, I really will. My dog is acting like I bought in a dog eating vulture, she is stressed out and hyperventilated when i set up the cage, I am looking after him for at least 6 weeks, any tips?? I want us ALL to survive x

  1. only when theyre going to take a long nap, they tuck their head into their feathers. not under their wing usually. or he may just be resting. and i would move the parakeet away from the dog. put the cage in a room with no dog.

  2. sounds like he's just sleeping.

  3. i think its fine x

i think it might be asleep

  4. It depends.  If his eyes are narrowed and his feathers are fluffed up, it means he's cold.  If he's cold and the temperature's hot, then he's sick.

Otherwise he's just sleeping.  Two of my parakeets sleep with their had turned around and tucked into their back.  One of my parakeets just sleeps in a standing position with closed eyes.  (If Jimmy is sleeping with his head under his wing, that's abnormal, but I'm not sure if it's bad.)

  5. Hi - budgies usually just nap by closing their eyes and sleeping, they don't tuck. Here is a great website with information about budgies - http://www.lisashea.com/petinfo/articles...

Also, if you search Google you'll get tons of info on budgies.

Don't worry, everything will be fine. Just please be careful with the dog around the bird. The dog seems anxious and you don't want that around the bird. So please always watch them together. Good luck!
