Buffalo Bills' coach Chan Gailey says QB Ryan Fitzpatrick can be championship winner – NFL News
Buffalo Bills’ head coach Chan Gailey has backed quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick as a championship winner player irrespective of the fact that he retains the poor record of 15-24 at Bills.
Chan’s comments coincide with almost similar remarks from Ryan’s colleagues, who believe the QB’s performance numbers are reflection of his teammates' poor performance.
The coach said:
“He can win championships."
Receiver Stevie Johnson insists it is not just down to the numbers. He said:
"You can't put it all on him. We all have to do our parts."
He added:
"I wouldn't even think he'd be facing pressure right now the way he's out there. He's so cool. He seems so comfortable."
As reflective in the player’s comments, it is the friendly personality of the QB that has attracted a great amount of respect for him from his colleagues. Centre Eric Wood says of Ryan:
"We wouldn't trade him for anybody. He's our guy."
Since the player is backed by the head coach and rest of the team, the question of his trade is unlikely to arise in the near future at least. The QB signed a six-year, $59 million deal in October last year, and his future seems to remain intact with the
Bills.
Ryan has discarded the impression if he has been feeling any pressure since signing the hefty deal last year. He said:
"I love it. If I didn't love it, I don't think I'd play the position. That's why I do it. I want all of the pressure to fall on me so that the other guys can just go out there and play."
Fitzpatrick is at training camp at present, aiming for a better run this season. The Bills are projected to come out on the field as a better outfit this season, given the team has built its strength at certain positions, including the defence.
In addition to giving a new contract to the QB, the Bills have signed former Houston Texans star linebacker Mario Williams. The team is reported to have progressed well in the defence strength.
