Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick says he has done enough to save his starting position – NFL News
After another dismal 17-50 defeat in Week 15 against Seattle Seahawks, Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has surprisingly come out and expressed his satisfaction about his performance in the 2012 season.
Despite getting a barrage of criticism for not providing enough workout on the field to make Bills a better team, Fitzpatrick insists he has provided enough output to secure his starting position for the 2013 season.
While talking to the media after the practice session on Monday, Fitzpatrick was asked whether he felt secure about his future. In reply, Fitzpatrick said:
“For me, in terms of putting in the work and trying to get the guys ready and all of that. I think that stuff has been great. Unfortunately the product on the field and the results especially the win-loss record is not where it needs to be. And so, again,
I think the last two games are important and then you just see how it plays out from there.”
Even though Fitzpatrick insists that he can turn things around in the next two weeks, signals coming from the Bills administration tell a different story.
Bills general manager Buddy Nix has been openly saying in the media that the time has come for the team to draft a franchise quarter in next year’s draft.
Moreover, Bills head coach Chan Gailey also seems to have jumped on the bandwagon. When the coach was asked if he felt comfortable in starting a rookie quarterback next year, he said:
"If he's the best player I am. I played a true freshman at quarterback [at] Georgia Tech with a fifth-year senior coming back because we felt he was the best football player. No question, that's every position we have."
Even though Fitzpatrick has put up good performances during the season, the player has not been able to stop give away turnovers. The quarterback has put up 2,935 passing yards and has scored 22 touchdowns this season.
Fitzpatrick is still going through early years of his six-year, $59 million contract, but there seems a growing perception that the quarterback might not be able to hold his starting quarterback place for next season.
