Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller continues to thrive despite playing with struggling team – NFL News
Even though Buffalo Bills will again miss the playoffs, it does not mean running back C.J. Spiller will not end the season on a high note. Spiller got his fifth 100-plus yards performance in Week 16 game on Sunday, December 23, 2012.
Spiller also broke the franchise record during the game for most yards covered in a calendar year with 1,572 yards from scrimmage covered this year.
The running back carried the ball 22 times during the game for 138 rushing yards and also caught four passes for 35 yards.
It was Spiller’s 10th game of the season in which he has covered 100 or more yards from scrimmage.
However, Spiller thinks the team’s failure to qualify for the postseason is the biggest regret he has with himself. Talking to the team’s official website on Monday, December 24, Spiller said:
“Anytime you’re mentioned with greats like that it’s definitely breathtaking, definitely humbling. Everybody knows that me and Thurman are really close, so it definitely feels good to be in there, but it seems like every time I reach a
milestone it always comes in a disappointment.”
Spiller has put up his career-best 1,185 rushing yards this season. The player has been getting all the snaps ever since running back Fred Jackson went out with an injury in Week 14 game against St. Louis Rams.
Spiller got an average of 6.55 yards per carry during the first 13 games of the season, but the lack of carries frustrated the player through most of the season.
Now that the player is getting maximum opportunity, Spiller is now working with his fellow players and coach to get maximum output. Spiller carried on and said:
“Without a doubt, we went back and looked at the previous game when we played these guys and we saw that we left a lot of yards out there. Coming into this game my mindset was don’t leave anything. Hopefully I didn’t. I’ll have to look
at the film and see. We knew we could run the ball.”
Spiller was drafted by Bills in the 2010 draft as ninth overall pick.
