Buffalo Bills’ defence led by Mario Williams expected to play greater role in wins – NFL News
The Buffalo Bills are upbeat about their defence this season, which has an added strength in presence of former Houston Texans’ star Mario Williams, who joined the team this year on the most expensive deal of the league.
Some commentators are impressed with the performance of the team’s defence, led by Williams, and this gives the team additional confidence to perform remarkably well this season.
Marcell Dareus – the second-year defensive tackle – said of the performance during initial couple of days at training camp:
"There's really not much I can say except, what you see is what you get. I don't think we're over-rated. I don't think we're under-rated. I think we're right where we're supposed to be."
Mario on other hand has sounded to be cautious, saying it was too early to boast about their performance. He nevertheless looked content with the work they had done so far.
He said:
"We're still building, but you know it's always nice to have good days. We've talked about what it looks like by just looking at the names written down. Sure that looks good. But can we take it and put it on the field? And that's what we're trying to do
now."
The Bills had taken everyone by surprise by landing Mario almost a $100 million deal this season. He is now the highly paid linebacker in the league. Still, the team is not worried about the cheque they have handed over to the player, given he remains to
be star defensive player in the future.
He had a successful stint the Houston Texans, who released him during this offseason, which itself was a surprise move given he had remained an important member of their defensive scheme under Wade Phillips – one of the well known defensive coordinators
in the league. The team, however, has played down the suggestions that Williams’ cut will have an impact on their performance.
Williams’ arrival in Buffalo no doubt forms a formidable group of defensive players with Bills. Some game analysts see the team quickly progressing in the defence on the league’s points table. Still, future performance of the player should give an answer
to the question if the Bills’ hefty payout to Williams is justified.
