Buffalo Bills defensive end Chris Kelsay placed on season-ending injured reserve list – NFL News
Buffalo Bills announced on Wednesday, December 05, 2012, that veteran defensive end Chris Kelsay has been put on season-ending injured reserve (IR) list.
Kelsay has been out since last month after he got a torn ligament during the practice session on November 08, while preparing for Week 10 game.
After missing two games the player returned to the field only to aggravate the injury during the Bills’ 13-20 defeat against Indianapolis Colts.
The defensive end has been pushing hard to recover from the injury, but it seems that it will take great amount of time for him to get fully fit.
Kelsay showed his frustration for not helping the team in taking the strides towards the playoffs. The veteran has landed on IR list for the first time in his illustrious 10-year career.
While wearing a brace over his neck, he spoke with the media and discussed his injury. According to the Associated Press, Kelsay said:
“To be standing on the sidelines and watching it from afar it’s disappointing. I’m envious of those guys being able to go out there and contribute and do what we know we’re capable of doing. It’s the nature of our business and unfortunately I’m on the sideline
right now.”
Kelsay also revealed that he does not need any surgery on his neck and the torn ligament is likely to get better with time. There is currently no recovery timeline given by doctors.
With Bills desperate to get fit players on the roster, a decision to place Kelsay on IR was imminent. Talking about the decision, Bills head coach Chan Gailey said:
“He felt great when he came back to practice and then it was just one little shot that got him again. So I think we really have questions about how long this thing takes to heal. It’s one of those unknowns really. You don’t know how bad it is until he gets
hit again.”
Kelsay, 33, missed only seven games in his career before this season. He was drafted by Bills in the second round (48th overall pick) of the 2003 draft.
