Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams having trouble with his injured wrist – NFL News
Buffalo Bills $100 million guy, defensive end Mario Williams has not been very impressive since his arrival. Now he has revealed that the injury on his left wrist has been affecting his output on the field.
Talking to Rochester Democrat and Chronicle on Wednesday, October 03, 2012, Williams said that he has not been able to effectively use his wrist on the field. Williams said:
“I’m a hands-on player and it’s all about power in my game. It’s just been a little odd having a little knick or whatever and not being able to use it to the full extent, but you know, you gotta play. When you’re out there on Sunday, you gotta play regardless
of what’s going on.”
Williams first complained about pain in his wrist after the Bills' season opening 48-28 loss against New York Jets. He was able to get only one tackle during the entire game.
So much was expected from Williams and the overall defence, but they failed miserably to perform up to the mark.
The frustration of the fans came to the boiling point in their game last week when Bills gave away a massive 45 points in the second half against New England Patriots to lose the game 52-28 in Week 4 on Sunday, September 30. Williams carried on and said:
“It’s just lingering a little longer than I expected. It’s definitely frustrating for it to happen when it did happen and not when anything counted, I think that was the biggest thing. But it’s fine, like I said, it just limits you and it’s kind of frustrating.”
Although Williams has played in all four games, he has produced below average statistics compared to his record with Houston Texans.
Till now, Williams has scored just 1.5 sacks and got two hits. Apart from the injured wrist, it could be the hefty price tag that is putting more pressure on Williams, distracting his focus from the game.
Many analysts have the opinion that Bills have overestimated the worth of the player who has only twice got 10 or more sacks in a season during his time with Texans. If things continue to run like this throughout the season, it could become one of the biggest
disasters in Bills’ history.
