Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams returning to form – NFL News
It looks like Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams’ troublesome wrist has fully recovered from injury. The $100 million guy is starting to show the skill that lured Bills to acquire him this offseason.
After scoring a mere 1.5 sacks in the first five games of the season, Williams finished with 2.0 sacks in Week 6 victory over Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
Bills head coach Chan Gailey said after the game that he was impressed with the output of Williams. Gailey said:
"I think he played extremely well. I'll have to watch the tape. I hate to go out on a limb, but it felt like he played really well. He played both the run and the pass. They were trying to chip him a bunch and he was still getting pressure on the quarterback.
His presence was duly noted by them during the game. I really know that."
After getting a win in his bag, Williams is satisfied with the performance of the entire defensive team. Talking with the reporters after the game, Williams said:
“Being here the whole week and being around each other every day with no distractions, just putting that against the world mentality, we needed it big time. They’re a great team.”
Williams scored 5.0 sacks in an injury-plagued 2011 season with Houston Texans.
Ever since he has joined the Bills, fans had great expectations from the most expensive defensive player in league’s history.
However, he has not been able to fulfil the expectations. He earlier blamed his injured wrist to be the reason behind the poor performance.
The problems with his wrist became controversial after the National Football League (NFL) decided to investigate his injury concerns.
Williams has compiled 14 tackles this season. Bills are currently 3-3 this season and need more good performances from their defensive end to place themselves better in their division.
The seven-year veteran had a successful time with Texans, who had drafted him as the first overall pick in the 2006 draft. He has received two Pro Bowl and two All-Pro selections in his career.
