Buffalo Bills defensive end Mark Anderson to be out for substantial amount of time – NFL News
After failing to make an impression in their last two games, Buffalo Bills defence is facing another problem as their defensive end Mark Anderson is out for an indefinite period. Bills head coach Chan Gailey announced the news on Wednesday, October 10, 2012.
Gailey told via the Bills official website that Anderson will need to have a surgery in order to repair his knee. Gailey said:
"It looks like he needs surgery and he is going to be out. I don't know how long. He will be back. It is not like he is going to miss the rest of the season. They just said indefinite and they will no more when they go in."
Anderson suffered a knee injury during Bills’ Week 5 game on Sunday, October 07. This has made Bills extremely vulnerable defensively.
With Anderson gone for a considerable period, it becomes essential for defensive end Mario Williams to step up and show his worth.
Anderson was signed by Bills for whopping four-year, $27 million contract this offseason. So far, both of Bills’ defensive signings of the offseason have not been able to perform up to the expectations.
Apart from Anderson, Bills will also be without defensive tackle Spencer Johnson in their Week 6 game against Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, October 14. Johnson injured his ankle during Week 4 and has not been able to come back since then.
In absence of Anderson, Bills will play with Williams and veteran defensive end Chris Kelsay. Defensive end Kyle Moore is also likely to get more playing time. Talking about the defence, Gailey said:
"It hurts your depth, it hurts your pass rush, and it hurts every little thing there. Next guy line has to step up. We got three defensive ends right now and those guys are going to have to make it happen.”
Anderson has 12 tackles and 1.0 sack this season. He was drafted by Chicago Bears in the fifth round (159th overall) of the 2006 draft.
