Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Spencer Johnson and guard Kraig Urbik hopeful for Week 7 – NFL News
Buffalo Bills defence will likely go out on the field in their next tie along with two of their starters. Defensive tackle Spencer Johnson and guard Kraig Urbik are likely to return in Week 7 game against Tennessee Titans on Sunday, October 21, 2012.
Bills head coach Chan Gailey updated the media about the current status of the injuries of both players on Monday, October 15.
Gailey also spoke about the condition of rookie offensive linebacker Cordy Glenn. Giving injury updates, Gailey said:
“Spencer and Urbik have got the best chances to make it. Cordy (Glenn) is probably the furthest behind at this point.”
Urbik, Glenn and Johnson all got injured during Bills’ Week 4 game against New England Patriots and did not play in the next two games.
In absence of these players, Bills defence were punished by San Francisco 49ers in Week 5, scoring 45 points.
Johnson injured his ankle but carried on to play the whole game. This aggravated the injury and Johnson had to miss practice for the next two weeks.
Urbik walked on the sideline on Monday without wearing an immobiliser boot for the first time since getting the ankle injury.
Bills played offensive linebacker David Snow and defensive tackle Jay Ross in their last game after adding them from the practice squad.
However, both the players were released from the active roster, indicating that there is a high chance of getting their injured players back next week.
Gailey indicated that he was not sure whether Urbik and Johnson will be able to participate in the team’s next practice session on Wednesday, October 17.
Bills desperately need these two players back as defensive end Mark Anderson is also out for uncertain period.
They have added defensive end Shawne Merriman into the team. Talking about the injury situation, Gailey said:
“With Mark (Anderson) being out and not only Mark being out, but Spencer (Johnson) who is kind of our swing guy being out—we would rather not go into a game with just three defensive ends.”
Johnson is nine-season veteran and has been playing for Bills for the last five years.
