Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix signals drafting a franchise quarterback in 2013 – NFL News
It seems all certain that Buffalo Bills have made their mind to draft a franchise quarterback in the 2013 draft. Bills general manager Buddy Nix made it clear on Friday, December 14, 2012, that the team will put all efforts to make sure they draft a quarterback
of their choice.
During a morning radio show interview with WGR-AM, Nix made it clear that Bills are willing to trade up their pick in order to draft a top-notch quarterback. Nix said:
"Let me say this: I think there's a time that in the era that you're in and the development of your team, there's a time when you can move up a round to take a quarterback, and I think the time's now for us.”
This in turn means that alarm bells are buzzing in the ears of Bills current starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who looks on course to finish another dismal season.
It would be a difficult task for Nix to draft a franchise quarterback next year as many reports have indicated that the bunch of quarterbacks available in the draft are not of the standards which we saw in the 2012 draft. Nix went on and said:
"I mean, if a guy's there -- I keep saying that, and there'll be one out there -- if the guy's there, then I think we'll target -- as I've said before -- drafting a good quarterback. We need a good, young quarterback, and we're going to do our best to get
him."
So, in this case, Nix might be a year late in making this decision. Nix also hinted about drafting a wide receiver that could play alongside wide receiver Stevie Johnson.
Nix recently gave his views about drafting a quarterback saying that if a team wants to draft a quarterback of its choice it should do it in one round earlier so that no other team gets a chance to take the player away.
If the perception in Bills' hierarchy is the same as that of Nix, they might have to compromise their draft picks so as to get the top pick in the first round of next year’s draft.
