Buffalo Bills give their AFC East rivals 28-9 beating in Week 17 – NFL Recap
Buffalo Bills got a stunning 28-9 victory over their American Football Conference (AFC) East rivals New York Jets in Week 17 game on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Ralph Wilson Stadium, Buffalo, New York.
Both teams entered this game already being eliminated from the from playoff picture and were looking for a consolation victory in order to end the season on a high note.
Bills ended their three-game losing streak, thanks to a sparkling performance by running back C.J. Spiller.
The team from Buffalo has ended the with a same 6-10 record they got in last season. This is their fifth consecutive finish at the bottom of their division.
This in turn means that some big changes are likely to be made within the Bills hierarchy. Giving his views about the team’s performance, safety Bart Scott said:
"The chips are going to fall where they may. Obviously, I don't know to what extent. This is one game. It's not any consolation as to what we wanted to get done this season."
Meanwhile, Jets got their third consecutive defeat as they chose the option of starting with quarterback Mark Sanchez who gave a dismal performance that has made him almost certain not be seen in the Gang Green in the 2013 season.
Sanchez along with Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano is in the forefront of losing their job next year.
Meanwhile, Jets head coach Rex Ryan did not speak much about the matter regarding some wholesale changes coming in the Jets camp in near future. Ryan said:
"The future is going to be addressed at a different time, six wins isn't up to anybody's expectations, for this team and certainly not mine."
Jets (6-10) have put up their worst record since the 2007 season in which they ended up with a 4-12 record.
Sanchez finished the game with 17 of 35 for 205 yards and threw one interception during the game. According to the Associated Press, Sanchez said:
"We just didn't execute, and it starts with the quarterback, I have to be better. When you're inconsistent, it's tough to win in this league. I know I'm better than this. I'm contracted to be here. And I want to be here."
Jets opened the scoring chart with a field goal, but Bills came back with a 20-yard interception returned for a touchdown to end the first quarter 7-3.
Jets went on to score two more field goals in the second quarter. However, Bills got back the lead with a 66-yard catch by Spiller to finish the first half 14-9.
Both teams failed to score in the third quarter. The final quarter saw Bills getting two rushing touchdowns with running back Tashard Choice and quarterback Brad Smith reaching the end zone.
