Buffalo Bills hurl in Pete Metzelaars as new tight ends coach – NFL News Update
The Buffalo Bills have hired former Indianapolis Colts coach, Pete Metzelaars as their new tight ends coach. The move was announced by the team on Tuesday.
Metzelaars was excited about returning to the Bills team from where he began his career and looked ready to get more involved in the affairs of the team.
"I'm excited about the opportunity here. I just heard good things about what they're doing here, great things about Chan Gailey. The type of man he is, the organization that he's put together and that he's running here." Metzelaars said.
Metzelaars said that the Bills have started building in the draft but have been missing in the drafts in the past years which has adversely affected them but however added that recently they made a few good choices and were headed in the “right direction”.
Metzelaars said that everyone here was positive and the team needed to take on the positive things that happened the last year.
“I think they’re headed in the right direction. Everybody is very positive here and has good feelings about where the organization and the team are headed.” Metzelaars said.
Metzelaars is a former National Football League (NFL) footballer who played on the tight end position for the Bills from 1985 to 1994. As a Bills player he came up with the most number of receptions ands touchdowns scored in the history of Buffalo Bills
by a tight end. He recorded 302 receptions and 25 touchdowns.
He also had the most number of receiving yards and games played by a tight end. He recorded 2,921 yards and 156 games played.
His career in NFL comprised 16 seasons and he played 235 games for which he holds the third place in the league for the most number of games played by a tight end. He started his career with the Seattle Seahawks in 1982 and then joined the Bills in 1985.
Metzelaars had spent the past eight seasons coaching the Indianapolis Colts. He served as the offensive line coach for the team for the last two seasons and helped the Colts team record the lowest number of sacks in the league in 2010. The Colts recorded
a mere 16 sacks in 695 attempts which was a big achievement for Metzelaars.
Metzelaars, with 16 years of experience playing as a tight end and in light of the record he holds with the Bills, may turn out to be the right choice for the Bills.
