Buffalo Bills lock in linebacker Kirk Morrison, renew deal for another two years-NFL News
The Buffalo Bills have acted well in time to avoid the inevitable free agency to linebacker, Kirk Morrison, by assigning him a new deal and the player is said to be happy over the arrangement, which provides him with the opportunity of playing for the side
for another two years.
Morrison was due to hit the free agency market after the National Football League (NFL) trade deadline of March 13, 2012, but the team felt he should be given another opportunity to prove his skills with them.
His first year, the 2011 NFL season, did not prove good enough for him and the player remained below the expectations from the side.
Now he is happy to have been given another chance to overcome the lapse of last year and possibly perform better to prove his critics wrong.
He said:
"I look at it as a new beginning for me. I'm excited to go out there and show what I can do."
Under the terms of new deal that has been agreed for two years, the player is set to make $2 million a season provided he comes up to the conditionalities of the contract, which are anonymous at this stage.
The player said he was satisfied with the apparent second coming and said it shows that the team believes in him.
Morrison added:
"I'm honoured for the opportunity. I'm honoured they believed in me."
He further said:
"I'm very eager. I don't think you guys don't understand that last year was not indicative of who I am as a football player. I have a lot of football left."
Bills have expressed similar hopes while confirming the deal.
Their newly promoted defensive coordinator, Dave Wannstedt, said of the player:
"We feel like he's a good fit. He's played the 4-3 most of his career. He'll be able to adjust both mentally and physically to the new system and make an immediate impact."
Morrison remained to limited participation in the last season with the team, and he also complained of getting not enough opportunities to prove his talent and skills.
It is probably for the complaints that the management has felt the need of giving him the second chance in the hopes of a better performance from the player.
The player said he enjoyed working with the linebacker coach last year, but due to the limited chance did not get enough time to learn more from him.
However, he added, that the renewal of the contract from the team has given him another chance to work with the official and said he would try to capitalise on it while working with him during the offseason, training camp and later in the regular season.
