Buffalo Bills not to push WR David Nelson and centre Eric Wood for preseason opener – NFL News
The Buffalo Bills have confirmed return of wide receiver David Nelson and centre Eric Wood after recovering from respective injuries as the team hit training camp after a day's break on Monday.
While giving the update on the injuries, coach Chan Gailey said still they will not push both players for their first preseason game against the Washington Redskins.
He said:
"I would say that we won't push David, we won't push Eric."
The coach, however, said that receiver Stevie Johnson is still a probable. He can be expected to improve in coming days.
Both Nelson and Wood have started training at the camp, but the coach insisted they do not have sufficient time and therefore they have decided not to push them for the opener of the preseason campaign.
Nelson suffered a sprain in his right knee on July 28 at opening of training camp and could not take part in any workout activity since then. Although the player says he is almost 100 percent, he agreed with the coach’s view to take some time to immerse
into the training and fitness programme.
The coach meanwhile did not have much to say about the recovery timeline of cornerback Terrence McGee who has been taking part in the training activity but on a limited basis.
The CB has suffered a knee injury, which required a surgery. He is expected to remain on the sidelines for the entire season, and the coach did not give any indication of his return any time this season.
Chan is hopeful for comeback of offensive tackle Erik Pears. The player suffered a groin problem on the second day of training camp and since then out is of the side. The coach now said the OT has an encouraging opinion from his specialist and should be
ready to return to action in near future.
Meanwhile, the coach confirmed that the preseason opening game of the team will be blacked out on the local television network because the team is unable to sell the game up to the seating capacity of the stadium. He said they still have got 20,000 tickets
to sell.
