Although Buffalo Bills have not been the worst performing team in the league, they also have not been able to meet the expectation of being a team that could surprise many with their good performance.
Currently having a 3-4 record, Bills are sitting at third place alongside New York Jets in the American Football Conference (AFC) East.
In this special edition, we will analyse Bills’ performance and see who produced standout performance and who faltered to excel on the field.
Week 1: New York Jets
Bills started their season facing their division rivals Jets who managed to give good offensive performance and won the game 48-28.
Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick got an ugly start to the season as he gave away three interceptions at crucial moments.
Fitzpatrick looked logy in the first half, but managed to play well in the second half. He completed 18 out of 32 passes for 195 yards and got three touchdowns.
Bills running back Fred Jackson got a knee injury and left the game. He was then replaced by running back C.J. Spiller who rushed for 169 yards along with a touchdown.
Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez easily penetrated Bills defence that looked a lot weaker than expected.
Bills $100 million defensive end Mario Williams failed to impress in his first regular season game with the team.
Week 2: Kansas City Chiefs
Spiller gave another sparkling performance as Bills got their first win of the season with 35-17 victory over Kansas City Chiefs.
The running back carried the ball 15 times for a total of 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Bills expensive defensive line flexed its muscles for the first time in the season as they came up with an outstanding performance in which they got five sacks and forced turnovers on three occasions.
Fitzpatrick looked good during the game. He completed 10 out of 19 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns.
It was easy for Bills to get a victory against a below-par Chiefs that had their sixth 0-2 start in last seven seasons.
Defensive end Mario Williams recovered a fumble from Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel which led to a touchdown.
Week 3: Cleveland Browns
Bills faced an easy opponent for the second week in a row as they beat Cleveland Browns 24-14.
The win came largely due to a superb performance by Fitzpatrick, who finished the game with 22 of 35 for 208 yards and three touchdowns.
Bills managed to come out victorious even though they lost their star running back C.J. Spiller who got a shoulder injury. It was Bills’ first victory on road after one year.
It was Browns’ ninth successive loss. Rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden was intercepted on two occasions during the final five minutes of the game.
Bills’ stout rushing defence kept Browns rushers under grasp. Bills were then 2-1 and looked to be in good shape to take another step towards betterment.
