Buffalo Bills players spend strategy helps reclaim fans loyalty-NFL News
The strategy of spending more to make more seems to have been paying off Buffalo Bills, in terms of winning fans’ loyalty and support.
Bills have recently landed a couple of expensive contracts and the fans see the splash-outs as bold decisions by the management, which possibly could see the team through from the dismal point of the league successfully.
The team has been known to be very cautious in the player’s spending, but by signing a six-year $100 million deal with defensive end, Mario Williams, they seem to have bucked the trend.
It comes out to be a positive development for the team’s fans, especially to those who opted out of the long-term support to the side with the sheer amount of disappointment.
Many of them were reported to have sold their season tickets, ending the years’ long loyalty and support for the side.
Now with the team making some bold financial decisions, a number of them have started returning to the side.
Joel Thompson is reported to be a long-standing supporter of Bills who last year sold out his season ticket but since the announcement of the hefty deals, he has again jumped on the bandwagon.
It did not take much time and efforts for Thompson to ‘Bill-lieve’ in his team. He has repurchased the ticket and is back with same old level of commitment.
Thompson said:
"When Mario came in for a visit, I got together with the guys, and said, `All right, if this happens, if he signs, we'll go back. And sure enough, that's what happened."
He added:
"This looked legit. Adding Mario, I thought, `Maybe this team can win sooner than later."
Bills’ supporter held the season ticket from 2002 to 2009, but unluckily for him, the team went beyond the regular season.
He hopes for a better future now.
The team has also realised the change. Bills’ chief executive officer, Russ Brandon, said that they have already sold out 4,320 season ticket packages this year.
He acknowledged that the ticket sales have picked up momentum recently, faster than the last 15 years.
Brandon said:
"With the additional signings, it certainly was a huge boost. And one of the things that's really resonated is that people feel the team is headed in the right direction under the guidance of Buddy and Chan. People seem very pleased that the arrow's pointed
up."
Other players, who have recently been signed by Bills, include defensive end, Mark Anderson, and receiver, Stevie Johnson.
However, it was Mario’s deal carrying the hefty value of $100 million that has surprised many in the football community, including the team’s long-standing fans, helping them to reclaim their hearts and minds.
